South Africa Alerts SRD Applicants to Use Correct Registered Cellphone Numbers to Avoid Delays and Verification Failures

The South African Social Security Agency known as SASSA wants all people applying for the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant to use their own cell phone numbers when they submit their applications. This grant provides R370 to eligible recipients. SASSA has made it clear that applicants must register using phone numbers that are officially registered in their own names. This requirement helps ensure that the application process remains secure and that the right people receive the financial assistance they need. Using a phone number registered under someone else’s name can cause problems with the application. It may lead to delays or even rejection of the grant request. SASSA uses these phone numbers to verify the identity of applicants and to communicate important information about their applications
